vincebhx commented 28min ago"Thanks for the full version. This song is really catchy (that bassline omg)!
First, here's what I can hear from the lyrics:
Stylistically, it sounds yéyé (so probably between 1961 and 1968).
It reminds me of C’est pas sérieux by Les Chats Sauvages (with Dick Rivers singing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMAr1flCdQ8
Now as the lyrics are anti-militarist, I think the best timeframes for this song are 1961-1962 (end of the Algerian War) or 1968 (May 68 social movement).
By searching « écoute » in 60’s French releases on Discogs, I found « Ecoute » by Noël Deschamps : https://www.discogs.com/fr/release/4374618-Noël-Deschamps-Ecoute, released in May 1968. Unfortunately, couldn’t find the song on the Internet. But here’s another one by the same artist (Oh la hey, co-written with Alain Bashung in 1966) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVTCo5LVJJU
I also searched the SACEM repertoire for « Ecoute écoute » https://repertoire.sacem.fr/resultats?filters=titles&query=ecoute%20ecoute#searchBtn and found a song called « Ecoute écoute » by Gerard Salesses. He was a member of « Les Caïds » in 1964 (a rock band from Toulouse).
Still, there were thousands of yéyé bands in the 60’s, so it could be another band. I think you can rule out artists who released mostly love songs (Les Chaussettes Noires, Les Chats Sauvages, Johnny Hallyday, Salvatore Adamo…) The fact that this is a protest song can help your search.
Do you have any information about the original 45rpm (matrix number on the record itself, region/area of France where it could come from…)?

Apparently, Edde's old friend showed us some proof. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDZV4GBBOUk
I am still shocked to the fact I was suscribed to William's YT channel for some time.

Thank you for at least clarifying the situation and the reasons, and giving us some context and insight into why and how you make the decisions you make.

Anyways, several sounds used in the song are layered, but I think I found the one used in the brassy lead and "snare". Both belong to the Roland D-50, the first one is a stack of Trumpetters and Mute Trumpet and the "snare" is the Drum Set 2 preset. I initially suspected it to be from the Emulator due the "realistic" nature of the sounds, but it seems I was wrong. I still feel like the Emulator was used in the choir pad and is the one I used to make this quick demo remake.

The compression, and cassete VST that I used to simulate the recording we have, changed the tone of the lead. This is why in the end I put the isolated examples to listen to it with more detail and judge the similarities.

Well, that's... kind of sad tbh. I don't know what could have happened in the life of this man reach this point. Even high profile industry producers haven't left me waiting this long, he comes across as lost and clueless as to what he's really doing. Maybe my initial suspicions were right and Edde was a fraud, all the way.

He got rather cross when I asked for an unmastered audio file.
I asked about the vocalist, referred to as "Andrew. He responded Andrew was his significant other who passed away in 2001. Why is he only sharing this information now?
When I asked about Bernard Sumner, his response was quite grandiose, claiming to have worked with everyone, including Quincy Jones. Yeah! Allright mate...!
Reach out for receipts but I'm telling all yous are better off dismissing this bloke. I don't believe he made Fond My Mind.
