ChaseMaker commented Il y a 1min"I found it
"3rd line sounds like "because you're right in front of me" in my opinion but idkHaha, sounds a bit like Splatoon music now! This helps a bunch! Yeah, those first two lines are pretty spot on. Changes wise...
I think the 3rd line is "Was (s)he right in front of me?"
There's no "and" on the 5th line. It's either "Ask me babe" or "As we bathe" I think it's ask me babe though.
The 6th line could be "Don't chance, come on just say." (Could also be No chance)
I think the 7th line is "I'll be standing there", it fits in with the song because the singer goes be-e.
-
This chorus is weird. "I'll miss you" is for sure in there and it's definitely ends in SOMETHING blues. I THINK it's "I'll die now, I'll miss you and the garden blues"
I think this has made me revise my opinion on the song, and that it's either a rejected confession or the fear of getting rejected, with the person worrying about missing out on love (through not confessing), wanting the other person to ask first and feeling like they want to die (either because they'd rather die than be turned down, or that feeling of wanting the ground to open up after confessing.) As odd as the lyric "Garden blues" is, I really can't hear anything else. And with this, it kinda makes more sense? Gardens are somewhere you'd go on a date or maybe to ask someone out on a date, so that place would feel bad either because you had a failed confession or somewhere you were planning to confess but never did.Your lyrics make more sense and you got those first two lines right for sure but take a listen to this https://vocaroo.com/19UmycMSrdJwHmm, for some reason I can't shake "I'll miss you, and the garden blues" as the lyrics (Maybe verdant blues?). Just from some surface level Googling, there's a song called the royal garden blues which is a very famous/important jazz song, which this might be a reference to? Maybe the song's about a singer having to leave a (jazz) band for some reason or another (some sort of romantic falling apart if I had to guess.)
~
My full interpretation of the lyrics (as per the extented vocaroo):
Did I fuck my whole life up?
Did I miss my one true love?
Told you I (am?) full of me
Every time I was 'out you and the garden blues
And ask me babe
The (chance come?) on just same
I don't need you standing there
Every time and I'll miss you and the garden blues
Garden blues

Hi Estragon, thanx a lot once more for your relentless effort! Unfortunately, neither The Cramps nor The Clash is what I'm looking for. I will try to go thru the other lists, maybe late tonight, while my wife sleeps ;-)
I'll be back to you :-)
All teh best, Erwin

Sorry if this is long (will split comments up), I'm working on some vaguely related research stuff and I just take notes whenever I find something that could also help in your search. Please note that I have absolutely 0 background in music theory or anything similar; I just so happen to do some related research at the moment.
Firstly, I would recommend again to start listening to the playlists by "Some Random Guy" on Youtube - the videos are only 10-15 mins long and, depending on your circumstances, can be listened to without paying much attention while being at work, for example, because they only play the most recognizable part of each song. I'm pretty sure you'd have an immediate "gotcha" moment even if you didn't pay much attention until your song popped up. I also suspect the person behind this channel is German, so the playlists are geared toward that audience:
(Helpful note: they always have the full list of songs in either the description section or the comments)
I'd start with this playlist:
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHVGJx_qeUaqxHlABcX4XtTm4ajo_KSsU&feature=shared
German hits, specifically: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHVGJx_qeUaq70Pj9EI8vAQtbkdp1pm2d&feature=shared
150 hits songs per year starting earlier than the 80s, if you feel like it could be a late 70s song as well: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHVGJx_qeUapyQEVch6Ia5eSxDzeScC4m&feature=shared
100 forgotten songs from the eighties: https://youtu.be/Px70SMnwFHw?feature=shared
And they started this, which I hope they will continue: German top 40 week 1984, April 23: https://youtu.be/6WIVA24ZdxU?feature=shared
In a more concrete sense, I just want to confirm whether you have looked into the more popular hits by the artists that I mentioned and who you thought could match what you're looking for?
For example, at least in Germany, I think Elvis Costello is mostly known for: "Oliver's Army" and "Pump it Up", not the ones I suggested to look into, so it's worth a try to listen to those if you haven't already
Adam Ant is mostly known for: "Stand and Deliver", "Prince Charming", I believe

Hi Estragon you're really making an effort, thanx for that!
I would say the voice is rather deep, but all the song is more the fun type and not sad or dull. Unfortunately, I lost the old tape on which I had recorded a fragment of it, but I remember that the word "jungle" appeared once or twice in the lyrics.. As stated before, I am pretty sure I reproduced the tune quite correctly :-)

Hi Estragon, thank you once more for your efforts. Good question though, I heard it sometimes on German radio.
Might have been synth pop, I have some difficulty with the definition of such categories. However, I don't believe it is likely to be Roxy Music. If so, which title would you suggest?
Anyway, I am pretty much sure that I hummed/whistled the melody accurately.
